Drinking Bong Water

We love smoking out of bongs. The bubble of the water as you light the cherry. The milky appearance of the tube as smoke builds up. The massive – and shockingly smooth – hits. The giant cloud of smoke after you exhale. Smoking out of a bong (or water pipe) always equals a fun time, but have you tried mixing things up a little?

BONG “WATER” FLAVORS

Before dumping any old drink into your bong, think about what flavors would complement your bud. Smoking Lemon Diesel? Consider pairing it with a chilled lemon-honey herbal tea. Or what about making a “fruit salad” by pairing Blueberry Haze with a strawberry-kiwi flavored water? Using a flavored beverage won’t totally mask the flavor of your bud, so make sure that the flavors go well together.

Because smoke in a bong must first pass through the liquid in the chamber, it will inevitably pick up some of the liquid’s flavor. This means that if you smoke using only water to cool the smoke, you’ll only taste your bud. And if you filter your smoke through apple juice, you’re going to detect a sweet apple flavor.

GENERAL BEVERAGE RULES TO FOLLOW

  • Any beverage should be chilled to cool the hot smoke before it enters your lungs.
  • The liquid should have a low sugar content. You don’t want a sticky, hard-to-clean pipe!
  • Do not use a beverage with a high alcohol content. We all know that alcohol absorbs THC, and you shouldn’t have to share your high with your bong water!
  • Avoid overly-carbonated beverages, which can create too much foam as you “bubble” the liquid by inhaling.
  • Clean your pipe often! This is an important practice for any piece, but especially in this instance. As soon as your smoke session is finished, wash your bong. Imagine week-old murky OJ in your favorite bong. ICK!
